We invite you to develop an engaging and accessible free-roam VR experience for our VR center, leveraging the expansive physical space available and advanced VR technology.
During the Dutch Design Week, we successfully ran a free-roam setup of 20x30m, allowing up to 8 people to wander together in a virtual museum. This hardware will soon be integrated into our VR center. The tracking quality is robust, ensuring safe navigation for players among columns. We have a substantial area of about 24x30m dedicated to Free-Roaming, where we aim to launch and test new content. The technical aspects are largely handled by the Free Roam system (Vive Focus 3 business LBE), making it accessible for students familiar with Unreal/Unity.
As part of the cooperation between Fontys and Enversed Studios we’ve developed a long-term project that can be worked on over multiple semesters. The goal of this project to create a growing VR gameplay system for the creation of Mission Impossible like mini-missions that can be played in the free-roaming VR-setting. The free-roaming aspect allows users to move in the world via physical movement instead of teleportation.
In ideal situation, we want to enable students to achieve more, by being able to build on the codebase of the existing project. With this, it becomes possible to focus your efforts on specific missions, features or systems; which increases learning value.
Teams that work on this project can choose to work on an aspect of this project. As we are now in the starting stages, the foundation of the game will need to be build. This includes to development of core gameplay features and multiplayer functionality. This can be combined with a simple basic ‘‘heist/burglary’’ mission.
Enversed Studios will support this project by also offering Unreal Engine 5 knowledge. As the codebase will need to be created in Unreal Engine 5 to allow Enversed Studios development teams to participate.
