Design a couch co-op game to enable parents and their children with BBS to play together.
Games for Health is on a mission to make 5 billion people happy by creating health-related solutions. We are developing a new human support program that helps patients with chronic conditions (like Bardet-Biedl, Endometriosis, Thyroproblems) during the time they don’t spend in hospitals. This is called Budiyu.
The first version focuses on:
- Medication intake
- Weigh monitoring
- Social & daily journaling
Also in this version a parent of a child with BBS can manage the condition of their child together.
BBS is a condition that impacts the whole family. You have to constantly change your life to manage nutrition, exercise and relaxation. This goes hand in hand with a lot of emotions. For BBS, it is the emotion that comes from the realisation that they cannot do things anymore that they are used to or are not able to do anymore or takes too much energy. This leads to emotions as frustration, disappointment, defeat and sadness. Also over time they will be faced with loss of sight.
Scope and Requirements
To make it a bit less dependant on BBS children, focus on:
- wholesome cooperative gameplay between sighted and people with poor eyesight
- a game that helps players cope with their emotions, directly or through cooperative play
For poor eyesight, you can also think about how do you teach people to use the Hable as a controller for digital environments.
Starting Resources
Budiyu.com and brandguide is available. Students can make use of an available Hable controller.
Expected Deliverables
- Research document on emotional coping in combination with cooperative gameplay
- Playable prototype including instructions on how to use it
- Short trailer
- Outcome of user test sessions
- Recommendations for further development
