Expand the engaging Kistsurfer game, controlled by a physical motion platform, that transports players into a thrilling endless runner experience through an abandoned factory.

De Ontdekfabriek aims to create a unique interactive experience by combining a physical motion platform with a digital game. The platform will consist of a crate mounted on three springs, allowing visitors to physically shift the crate’s position, which will be tracked and translated into game input.

An earlier group developed a captivating endless runner-style game. Check it out here! Players “surf” through a virtual abandoned factory while perched atop a suspended crate. This innovative provides an exhilarating and immersive gaming experience that aligns with De Ontdekfabriek’s mission of sparking curiosity and innovation.

The game’s narrative and visuals draws inspiration from De Ontdekfabriek’s origins as a repurposed factory, now filled with intriguing crates housing remnants of past inventions.

The goal of this project is to take this game to the next level.

Scope and Requirements

  • add balancing forward/backward (mapped to up and down)
  • expanding the world based on extra concept, this could be hadding other halls, a larger world, or the stargazer world (see included image) as an interchange to switch from one player to the next
  • rethink or expand on the tools/crafting system, simplifying it for the 2min (per player) experience
  • make better use of dynamic camera controls so we see more of the platform
  • using a physical button to grab/lift things
  • create an inviting idle/demo mode when nobody is on-board

Starting Resources

  • access to the physical motion platform prototype
  • access to the previous prototype
  • Wii balance board for the surfing experience

Expected Deliverables

  • Game Design Document
  • Playable prototype the game, optimized for the physical platform
  • Gameplay video including on-site footage
  • Source code and assets (git repository)
