We invite you to develop an engaging and accessible free-roam VR experience for our VR center, leveraging the expansive physical space available and advanced VR technology.

During the Dutch Design Week, we successfully ran a free-roam setup of 20x30m, allowing up to 8 people to wander together in a virtual museum. This hardware will soon be integrated into our VR center. The tracking quality is robust, ensuring safe navigation for players among columns. We have a substantial area of about 24x30m dedicated to Free-Roaming, where we aim to launch and test new content. The technical aspects are largely handled by the Free Roam system (Vive Focus 3 business LBE), making it accessible for students familiar with Unreal/Unity.

The challenge is to create a low-threshold free-roam experience for 6-8 people, utilizing the physical space of the Veemgebouw. We envision the project to be developed in Unreal Engine, allowing our development team to provide support as needed. We can also assist with art development. Several game ideas suitable for our audience include:

  • A free-roam interpretation of a “snowball fight” shooter.
  • A free-roam stealth/burglary game.
  • A free-roam mini escape room.

There are certainly more possibilities to explore. Given the project timeline of 8 weeks, we need to keep the scope manageable to ensure a playable outcome by the project’s end.
